Méthodologie

How WalletReturn estimates credit card value — transparently and without affiliate bias.

WalletReturn estimates value using a deterministic formula based on the information you enter and the product data in our database. Compensation amounts do not affect product rankings.

The core formula

Estimated Annual Rewards = Σ (Eligible Spending × Earn Rate × Estimated Reward Value)

Estimated Year 1 Value = Annual Rewards + Welcome Bonus Value + Applicable First-Year Benefits + Consumer Rebate (if applicable) − Annual Fee

Estimated Ongoing Value = Annual Rewards + Applicable Recurring Benefits − Annual Fee

For cash-back cards, the earn rate is applied as a percentage of spending. For points cards, points are converted using the card's estimated point value (in cents each).

Servus Circle Rewards: earned investment value

For Servus No Fee Mastercard, WalletReturn values Circle Rewards points at 1¢ each using the Circle Rewards GIC principal-contribution method. Estimated value reflects points earned, not necessarily points currently redeemable. For example, 600 earned points have $6 of estimated value but cannot meet the redemption minimum alone. Year 1 is not currently modeled.

Redemption requires at least 5,000 points ($50 of principal) and a $500 total investment; member top-up is permitted. Contact a Servus branch for investment handling and eligibility, and keep your card account open and in good standing. The GIC has a one-year term with redemption at maturity under applicable terms. This is investment principal value, not unrestricted cash or a promise of same-year availability or early access. Interest, tax outcomes, Profit Share and member top-up funds are excluded. Other redemption methods may differ.

See the official Circle Rewards GIC requirements et Circle Rewards program FAQ.

CIBC Aventura: estimated earned payment value

For CIBC Aventura Visa, CIBC Aventura Gold Visa and CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite, WalletReturn values points at 0.625¢ each using CIBC Payment with Points: 4,000 points provides a $25 payment toward the card balance. Estimated value reflects points earned and may not equal a currently redeemable payment amount. For example, 2,000 earned points have $12.50 of estimated value, below the redemption minimum. Other Aventura redemption methods may have different values.

Redemption requires a primary cardholder, a qualifying account in good standing and sufficient available points. Payments are reflected within five business days; exact subsequent increment rules are not publicly established. We do not simulate redemption orders, opening balances, carryover or payment scheduling. See CIBC Payment with Points terms.

Estimates use eligible annual spending across a complete reward cycle with an even spending mix and all cardholders’ eligible net purchases. Issuer transaction-level rounding may differ because transaction cents do not earn points; we do not reproduce exact transaction chronology or guarantee issuer accrual totals. We deduct the regular primary annual fee only; optional supplementary-card fees and conditional banking-package rebates are excluded. Journie loyalty, lounge visits, NEXUS rebates, insurance and network or service benefits remain unvalued. Year 1 is not currently modeled.

What we count

  • Your monthly spending across common categories.
  • Each card's reward earn rates and caps.
  • Estimated point or cash-back values.
  • Active welcome bonuses and their estimated value.
  • Recurring benefits you're reasonably likely to use (e.g. we don't count lounge value for someone who rarely travels).
  • Annual fees, including first-year fee rebates where offered.
  • Consumer rebates funded from affiliate revenue, where the issuer allows them.

Optional reviewed earning rules

Some reviewed cards use separate earning tiers below and above a monthly or annual eligible-spending cap. Annual caps apply to the full annual estimate; monthly caps apply to each modeled month. Existing cards retain their existing calculation treatment until explicitly reviewed.

Expedia For TD spending is a subset of travel spending. Eligible streaming and digital media is combined with eligible recurring bills in one earning bucket and removed from its original bucket to avoid counting it twice. Unknown allocations withhold a personalized estimate until you enter them.

For offers with separate first-purchase and spend-threshold components, we use your explicit planned qualification inputs. Counted value, pending amounts and the conditional maximum are shown separately. Year 1 excludes pending welcome amounts. Existing single-value offers continue to assume their displayed conditions are met. Fee-waiver requirements remain conditional.

Newly reviewed points cards require an explicitly approved valuation basis. Catalogue-only products remain available as factual listings and do not receive personalized values or enter rankings. Benefits without approved monetary treatment are displayed and excluded from dollar estimates; insurance coverage limits are not cash values.

First-year bonus value, net annual rewards and first-year value

Card listings and card pages show three figures. When you have not entered your own spending, they use our example profile: $2,000/month: groceries $500, dining $200, gas $150, transit $80, travel $100, recurring bills $200, entertainment $100, drugstore $40, online $300, other $330.

  • Net annual rewards = rewards at example spending minus the regular annual fee.
  • First-year bonus value counts only bonus components earnable within the first 12 months, assuming spending requirements are met.
  • First-year value = net annual rewards + first-year bonus value + any first-year annual fee rebate.
  • Insurance, lounge access, travel credits and partner perks are not valued.

Points and miles are converted to dollars at fixed, conservative values based on a widely available redemption option, not best-case travel redemptions:

  • Membership Rewards: 1¢ per point
  • Aeroplan: 1¢ per point
  • Scene+: 1¢ per point
  • Aventura (Payment with Points): 0.625¢ per point
  • Aventura (flexible travel): 1¢ per point
  • Avios: 1¢ per point
  • Marriott Bonvoy: 0.7¢ per point
  • VIPorter: 1¢ per point
  • Asia Miles: 1¢ per point
  • MileagePlus: 1¢ per point
  • BMO Rewards: 0.67¢ per point
  • National Bank À la carte: 0.83¢ per point
  • Meridian Rewards: 1¢ per point
  • PC Optimum: 0.1¢ per point
  • Hilton Honors: 0.5¢ per point

Welcome offers were checked against issuer websites (or, where an issuer page could not be read, a published comparison source, noted on the card) on October 14, 2026. Offers with a published end date stop counting after that date.

Important assumptions & limitations

  • Point and reward values are estimates. Individual redemption values can vary.
  • Merchant category coding is determined by the card network and issuer and can vary by merchant.
  • Offers can change at any time; estimated bonus values reflect the offer currently in our database.
  • Benefits are not equally useful to everyone. WalletReturn attempts to count benefits only where relevant to your profile (for example, travel-related benefits are counted only when you travel).
  • Issuer eligibility and approval remain controlled by the issuer; WalletReturn does not guarantee eligibility or approval.
Affiliate compensation does not change WalletReturn's mathematical recommendation calculations. Compensation amounts are never used in ranking. Our comparisons and calculations follow this published methodology.

Estimates are not financial advice. See our terms of use et divulgation publicitaire.
