How much are Scene+ points worth?

Quick answer

1 cent each for most redemptions, so 10,000 points ≈ $100. Scotiabank’s published redemptions all work out to 100 points per $1.

Where do you earn Scene+ points?

Quick answer

With an eligible Scotiabank debit or credit card on your purchases, plus extra points when you scan your Scene+ card at partners: Sobeys-family grocery stores, Home Hardware (50 points per $50), Cineplex, partner restaurants and Scene+ Travel, powered by Expedia (3 points per $1 on hotels, car rentals and Things to Do).

Scanning the membership card and paying with a Scene+ credit card earn separately, so at partners you can collect both.

How many Scene+ points does each Scotiabank card earn?

Quick answer

Scotiabank’s Gold American Express earns the most at grocery partners: 6 points per $1 at Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo and Foodland. The no-fee Scene+ Visa earns 2 points per $1 at partners and 1 elsewhere.

CardEarn rates (Scotiabank)
Scotiabank Gold American Express6 points per $1 at Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo and Foodland; 5 on other groceries, dining and entertainment; 3 on gas and transit; 1 elsewhere
Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite3 points per $1 at Sobeys, Safeway, IGA and Foodland; 2 on other groceries, dining, entertainment and daily transit; 1 elsewhere
Scotiabank Scene+ Visa2 points per $1 at Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, FreshCo, Home Hardware and Cineplex; 1 elsewhere

Example: $200 a week at Sobeys earns 1,200 points a week on the Gold American Express (about $12 back) or 400 points on the Scene+ Visa (about $4), before any Scene+ card scan.

How do you redeem Scene+ points?

Quick answer

At checkout in partner stores, on Scene+ Travel, for movies and games at Cineplex, The Rec Room and Playdium, for gift cards from more than 60 brands, or as a credit on an eligible Scotiabank debit or credit card.

A points-for-credit request is final once submitted and goes toward your overall balance, not a specific purchase; you still need to make your minimum payment. Credits take 2–3 business days on debit and up to 5 on credit cards.

Scotiabank says partial travel redemptions online are coming soon; for now it asks members to call 1-866-586-2805 to use points toward part of a travel booking.

What’s the best way to use Scene+ points?

Quick answer

Because most redemptions are worth the same 1 cent, use them where you’d spend money anyway: groceries, Home Hardware or travel. Avoid redemptions worth less, and remember Scene+ points can’t be transferred to another person.

Do Scene+ points expire?

Quick answer

Not while you hold an open Scotiabank product that’s eligible for Scene+. Without one, your account can be closed after more than 24 consecutive months with no earning or redeeming; Scotiabank gives advance notice.

Which credit card earns the most Scene+ points?

Quick answer

At typical spending, the Scotiabank American Express earns the most each year ($364 after the fee).

Card values use WalletReturn’s example spending of $2,000 a month. First-year value is the welcome bonus plus a year of rewards, minus the annual fee; net annual rewards are what a typical year earns after the fee. Rankings are the same whether or not we earn a commission.
