How much are my points worth in dollars?

Quick answer

Multiply the points by the value per point. The table applies WalletReturn’s point values, the conservative, repeatable redemption values behind every estimate on the site.

Values assume a typical redemption for the program, usually travel. Premium-cabin flights or transfer partners can beat them; merchandise and gift cards usually fall short.

Put it into practiceWhat credit card points are worth

How much are 50,000 points worth?

Quick answer

About $500 in Aeroplan, Membership Rewards or Scene+ at roughly 1 cent a point. In BMO Rewards it is about $335, and in Marriott Bonvoy about $350.

A typical welcome bonus is in this range, which is why a 50,000-point offer on a travel card is often worth more than a $200 cash-back bonus, but not always.

How much are 100,000 points worth?

Quick answer

About $1,000 in the 1-cent travel programs, $670 in BMO Rewards and $100 in PC Optimum.

Large balances are worth redeeming before they lose value: programs can change their redemption charts, and points in a bank’s own program are usually lost if you close the card.

Why does CIBC Aventura have two values?

Quick answer

Because the same points are worth different amounts depending on how you use them: about 1 cent each through the Aventura travel chart and 0.625 cents when you pay for purchases with points.

The redemption method decides the value. Check the options your program offers before assuming a point is worth a cent.

How do I compare points with cash back?

Quick answer

Convert the points to dollars with the table, then compare. Earning 2 points per dollar at 1 cent a point equals 2% cash back; at 0.67 cent a point it equals about 1.3%.

WalletReturn’s card estimates already convert points to dollars with these values, so you can compare a points card and a cash-back card on one number.
